Compositional Work
Dr Eugene Seow’s compositional practice is grounded in jazz-informed writing, rhythm-section fluency, and cross-cultural ensemble design. His work draws on formal training in jazz composition (Berklee College of Music, Summa Cum Laude) and advanced orchestration (FVCM(Hons)), alongside his practice-led research in rhythm pedagogy and hybrid ensemble performance.
Eugene writes selectively for projects that align with his artistic and research interests, with a portfolio spanning:
-
Contemporary jazz and improvising ensembles
-
Hybrid and cross-genre instrumentations integrating rhythm-section literacy and global groove concepts
-
Educational and developmental ensembles informed by curriculum design and ensemble pedagogy
-
Artist-led collaborations requiring bespoke rhythmic, textural, or cross-cultural frameworks
His compositions and arrangements have been performed by the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra, recorded on original albums Origin Story (2018) and A Blueprint for Tomorrow (2016), and featured across concerts, studio projects, and educational settings internationally.
Eugene’s approach emphasises clarity, performability, and high-level ensemble communication. All materials are professionally engraved, with practical rehearsal considerations embedded into the score design.
