Areas of Supervision

I supervise and support projects across practice-led and practice-based music research, undergraduate dissertation and BMus research projects, MA/MMus performance and pedagogy projects, aural fluency, ensemble pedagogy, rehearsal practice, rhythm and groove studies, musical judgement, assessment validity, reflective practice, curriculum design, and contemporary music higher education.

Recent and current supervised or advised project areas include jazz drum-set language, walking bass and harmonic substitution, marimba concerto performance across ensemble contexts, guqin and erhu performance analysis, popular singing and vocal texture, J-Pop Rock harmony and modulation, rehearsal efficiency, AI and music-college teaching management, traditional and modern music teaching methods, aural fluency, rhythm/groove pedagogy, and practice-led documentation for performers and composers.

Support may include individual dissertation or project supervision, MA/MMus project advising, research-question and scope clinics, literature review and database-orientation support, methodology and ethics preparation, practice-led documentation workshops, reflective writing and exegesis support, pre-submission proposal review, assessment-validity and musical-judgement seminars, and staff/student research-methods workshops.
